Hsinchu

DECEMBER 5, 2015 ~ DECEMBER 6, 2015

This post is very late 🙁 It was a very chill weekend in Hsinchu.

Christmas Market

A lot of the other Foreign English Teachers were going to check out this Christmas Market in Hsinchu. We went, expecting there to be arts and crafts and lots of food.  Also, if you can’t find foreigners in Taiwan, they’re probably all in Hsinchu.

Interestingly enough, the event was held poolside at one of these big apartment buildings.  The pool was empty which allowed for some games of soccer for the kids.  Unfortunately, by the time we got there, there wasn’t a lot of food left.  There was also a lot of alcohol.  And they overcharged me for a can of soda.  I can normally get a can of soda for 20 NT at a convenience store, but I ended up paying 50 NT.  For 80NT, you can add rum to your coke.

But it was fun just to see everyone.  Most times it’s the company and the people you’re with.

Taco House

Afterwards, we caught ordered a cab from 7 Eleven (it works!) and took it to Taco House.

Tracy described it as similar to Taco Bell.  I thought it was tasted very good.  I definitely recommend going there.  Their business seemed to be good as well with a steady flow of customers.

Barfly

Next stop: a bar.  On the way, we stopped to watch this dance competition/ battle.  Some of them were pretty good.  They could definitely move better than me.

We then went to this bar that was pretty fun. We played Jenga, darts, and Foosball.

Yay! My first time playing darts! Yeah, I didn’t really do well, but it was fun to just try it out.  I didn’t do too well in Foosball either.  Feel bad for Tracy who was my partner both rounds.  I think I was better at scoring for the other team.

HSINCHU- DAY 2

Thai Food

Yay! I finally got thai food in Taiwan.  And they had Pad Thai! I miss the Americanized Asian foods.

Big City

Then we went to Big City to do some shopping. I went to Daiso for the first time.  It’s this Japanese store, where everything is a dollar (39NT).  So basically a dollar store.  I got a Santa hat among other things.

Big City was crowded though.  There apparently was some big sale at Uniqlo that motivated people to stand in a line half a mile long. (Okay, I’m exaggerating, but the wait time had to be at least an hour.)

Here’s Tracy at Daiso. You’re welcome.
